Every night the 70-90 million possums in New Zealand eat their way through 22,000 tonnes of native forest causing enormous ecological damage to plant and bird life.

The possum is a native of Australia, but when released in New Zealand native forests by man, an environment in which they have no natural predators they have become a huge pest even putting our national icon, the kiwi under threat. By disrupting nests, breaking eggs and competing for food they are decimating the recovery of our Native birds.  In a country once described as having a deafening bird song it sadly seems a special event to hear a tui or bell-bird's beautiful song these days.

Mohair Craft feel that every Possum product we sell is a step in the right direction. That being towards the eradication of the Possum from our shores. Only then will New Zealand find the true, beautiful balance of life between our forests and birds that we once had.
